One of the methods to know more about domestic or wild animals is going to the zoo. In Malaysia, there is a lot of zoo that placing animal’s especially wild animal. Moreover, I am one of the UMS students, so I have a lot of times to enjoying the view of flora and fauna that are familiar with Borneo, I already going to the zoo at Kota Kinabalu which is known as Lok Kawi Wildlife Park.

From there, I knew that Borneo is a rich variety of wild plant and animals. We also enjoy making the mouth of our tourists open wide, with the number of many species in Borneo. Whatever, all this impressive facts sound more like a number. Nobody really knows what the “real content” is. Many locals do not even know what are pygmy elephants and proboscis monkeys. At last, we have a “Lok kawi Zoo” (The correct name is “Lok Kawi Wildlife Park”). It is a good start, though it is not only showing animals that are native to Sabah. The entrance fee is RM10 for Malaysia Adult, RM5 for children, RM20 (nearly USD6) for foreigner adult tourist, RM10 for foreigner children. The admission is free for Malaysia Senior Citizens (above 60). The zoo is open daily from 9.30am to 5.30pm and the place is actually next to the Old Penampang road.

What they have? They have birds, deers, orang utan, proboscis monkeys, civets, elephants, ostrich, hornbills, tigers, otter, rhino, etc. They also have a Botanical garden, but I haven’t explored it. For serious visitors who want to learn something, it can be a full day trip. They also have elephant ride (for children below 12 only) at 10.30am - 11.30am and 3.30pm - 4.30pm. Overall, the facilities and trail are well planned. For bigger animals such as tiger, they have an allocated open space, and the visitors can see them from a viewing shelter, which is equipped with fans and description board.

3 Ways to Help End the Illegal Wildlife Trade

1.)
Keep your eyes open when surfing the Internet!
If you come across online offers on the Internet dealing in wildlife products or live protected animal species, then you should report these activities to your national authorities and to the web sites themselves to demand that they remove illegal wildlife offers.

2.)
Educate yourself and others about the origins of products that involve the death of wild animals.
Learn more about the trade in live animals and the cruelty and suffering that is associated with it. Form a group to campaign against the wildlife trade. Share your knowledge with friends and family and make them aware of this important issue. This kind of campaign is usually targeted students to educate and motivate them about wildlife conservation.

3.)
Don’t buy or sell wild animals or wildlife products online and offline.
Wildlife should not be considered as commodities to be traded, and animals should not pay with their lives so that people can own luxury goods. Do not participate in the wildlife trade. Regardless of whether an item was a souvenir, a gift or an heirloom, do not resell it. And make a conscious decision not to buy wildlife goods. If we don’t buy, they don’t die!

"The important issue in man's exploitation of animals is that they should not neglect the animal's welfare. Man may use animals for various purposes as long as he treats them well and cares for their well-being.... Pets kept at home should receive proper grooming, diet, and immediate veterinary attention when they fall ill. The future will see greater concern for the welfare of animals besides the recognition of the role animals can play in the social well-being of man."

Timingly in 1996, the Veterinary Association of Malaysia (VAM) took up the responsibility to raise funds in support of animal welfare and undertake community projects under its President, Dr. S. Sivagurunathan. A "Community & Cats" pilot pet adoption programme for Cheshire Home was jointly organised by the Association with the Department of Veterinary Services, Majlis Kebajikan Masyarakat, Feline Society of Malaysia and Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. USA.

Mission Statement: To promote a caring Malaysian society through creating awareness and a balanced approach to animal welfare for the well being of animal and mankind.

A major project that the Foundation initiated with the support of the Ministry of Education in 2002 was an animal welfare education program for schools. The objectives of this ongoing program are to promote human-animal interaction as part of child development, encourage a wider awareness of and respect for all living things and inculcate responsible and caring attitudes. Activities include teaching on pet care, human-animal interaction, art, drama and visits to zoos, animal parks and animal shelters, all designed to make the learning creative and enjoyable. The Foundation works closely with local government agencies, animal welfare associations and pet clubs. It will continue with its commitment and efforts to promote animal welfare in the country and provide support to various organizations in matters associated with animal welfare.

Hubback, the former Game Warden of Pahang as the Chief of the Wildlife Commission of Malaya.

Top of the couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has help a WildAid activities by doing a new project, named as "Maddox Jolie Pitt Project" in carry out a 'threats and needs' assessment at Cambodia. This project is provided to achieve a sustainable path to economic development, balancing conservation especially for a wildlife.

A few months ago, there is a reality show called as “Sehati Berdansa” which is plays on Astro channel. Celebrities that involved on this reality show were Rosma and Khai which is they has picked Malaysian National Animal Welfare Foundation (MNAWF) as their benefiting welfare organization. Each couple dances for a charity organization. The sponsors will donate a sum of money to the organization every time the couple succeeds to the next stage in the competition.

A passionate advocate for animals, Jackie Chan has once again teamed up with the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) to create awareness of a little-known example of appalling cruelty to animals bear farming in Asia. Chan and WSPA have filmed a powerful 30-second PSA calling for an end to the cruel practice and showing the intense suffering and deplorable conditions bears on farms are forced to endure. WSPA has identified bear farming as the planet worst example of animal suffering inflicted by humans, and the PSA is part of a worldwide campaign to highlight the plight of the 12,000 bears living in Asia bear farms.

Everyone knew what the meaning of animals is, I’m sure we are born with the knowledge of them and they also can be our pet. Many of us take a pet such as cat, dog, and fish and so on to make ourselves be comfortable with their own characteristics and also they make us happy because an expert psychologist said that talk and plays with a pet is one of the methods to discharge a feeling of stress and problems. But, don’t you realize that an amount of animals becomes down currently especially wild animals, they are extinct because of people activities such as development on a virgin forest, housing, lumbering and so on. Even this incident becomes spread widely, but many of us do not take any incentive to make sure the animals still existed in this world. Some of them just ignore about it, some of them just put the problems to the welfare groups and some of them are concern about it but do not know how to help the animals. This problem cannot be settle if WE, as a HUMAN BEING do not take this issues as an important part on our lives because it is not for us only but also for our next generation.

On this day, animal life in all its forms is celebrated, and special events are planned on locations all over the globe. 4 October was originally chosen for World Animal Day because it is the feast day of Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and patron saint of animals and the environment. Numerous churches throughout the world observe the Sunday closest to 4 October with a Blessing for the Animals.

· However, World Animal Day has now gone beyond being the celebration of a Christian saint and is today observed by animal-lovers of all beliefs, nationalities and backgrounds. Animal blessings are held in churches, synagogues, and by independent Animal Chaplains in parks and fields. Animal rescue shelters hold fundraising events and open days, wildlife groups organize information displays, schools undertake animal-related project work and individuals and groups of friends or co-workers donate to animal charities or pledge to sponsor a shelter animal.

CASES

There are many cases that involved animals which is human treat animals cruel and always punished them without sympathy. One of it happened in China, according to the Associated Press, 50,000 dogs have been massacred in China. The AP reports:

1. A country in a southwestern China has killed as many as 50 000 dogs in a government ordered campaign following the deaths of three local people from rabies, official media reported on Tuesday. The five-day massacre in Yunnan province's Mouding Country spared only military guard dogs and police canine units, the Shanghai Daily reported, citing local media. Dogs being walked were taken from their owners and beaten to death on the spot, it said. Other killing teams entered villages at night creating noise to get dogs barking, and then homing in on their prey. The slaughter of 50 000 dogs is a terrible tragedy.

He had, like all boisterous adult male elephants, done this for years: Trumpeting and lumbering through thorny bushes to a favored waterhole in the Taita Hills Ranch near Tsavo East National Park, south-east of Kenya.

Thus the sudden and searing pain in his side was no big deal. He probably dismissed it as a harmless, thorny prick. But unbeknown to him, this was an arrowhead laced with deadly poison. It would kill him in a few hours and poachers who, like vultures, had been following as he slowly agonized to death would descend and brutally hack off his tusks.

There would be no dignified funeral. His kind would not weep around his comatose body in final salute as is the norm with elephants. Even the hyenas and vultures would keep off, forewarned by an innate alarm that his poison-drenched remains were no ordinary carcass.

Further east - approximately 100 kilometers from this spot - three other elephants had been killed in a span of six weeks, on private ranches, too.

The turnaround has game wardens, like the Tsavo Parks’ Assistant Director in charge, Jonathan Kirui, confounded. “This trend is worrying. Elephants are dying from poisoned arrows outside the park, not the armed gangs we are accustomed to. Arrows are deadly because they are silent. Unlike gunshots, you only get to hear about it when it’s too late, when the elephant is dead and the poachers long gone,” he says. But middle men and international profiteers have even more lucrative incentives for killing elephants, with a kilo of ivory fetching, according to experts, more than US$850 on the international black market.

3. Now, the Internet has opened up a bustling venue for illegal trade in live gorillas, baboons, and other protected species, according to a new report. The report, released last week by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), revealed that thousands of wild animals and animal parts from live chimpanzees to whole elephant tusks are illegally offered for sale online every day. The result is a cyber black market where the future of the world's rarest animals is being traded away.

The First Strike® campaign was created in 1997 to raise public and professional awareness about the connection between animal cruelty and other violent crime violence and to help communities identify some of the origins of violence, predict its patterns, and prevent its escalation.

Each year, the campaign works with local animal protection agencies around the United States to bring together animal shelter workers, animal control officers, social service workers, law enforcement officials, veterinarians, educators, and others to learn about the violence connection and to promote inter-agency collaborations to reduce animal cruelty, family and community violence.

First Strike also provides investigative support, rewards, expert testimony and information on the animal-human cruelty connection to law enforcement and prosecutors in high-profile animal cruelty cases.

It is one of the campaign that i had took from internet, there are so many campaign about protection animals.. it can be said that a whole world are facing the same issue which is about take a wrong actions to the animals, either domestic or wild animals..it is the same..people want to make money by kill them, take out their skin, and sell it to other country and get much more money..so cruel, but..it is on the real world, not fantasy..no wonder our wild animals are getting down and down currently...we cannot blame people, but we must blame ourselves..just think about it!!!
